The funeral proceedings began with a procession of more than 50 motorcyclists
who followed a black horse-drawn hearse from the home where the 34-year-old
lived with his wife Sarah and daughters Beulah, 13 and Bronwyn, 11, in Spooner
Row, near Wymondham. The procession wound its way through the back roads and headed to Wymondham Abbey where more than 500 mourners gathered for an emotional funeral service lead by The Reverend Canon Christopher Davies. Mr Davies said the large number of mourners was testament to Marc's “remarkable character” and added: “This reminds us of the very special qualities that he possessed.” Among the dedications read out during the service were tributes from Marc's wife Sarah and the couple's daughters, Marc's parents, sister Melanie and his auntie Gill.. Sarah, who was on the grid with Marc ahead of the fateful race on June 8, said: “Marc was an incredibly caring and loving person who would have been there not only for me but the girls and all his mates. “Racing was Marc's biggest passion and he tried his hardest to make sure everything was perfect…I know he will be missed by so many people and I cannot begin to explain how much I will miss him. They say you only have one true soul-mate and for me he was that. It isn't really good-bye, but until we meet again your memories will live on.” Marc's parents Sue and Ernie Ramsbotham paid tribute to their son and said: “Marc in the short time you were with us you touched so many people's hearts. You were successful and achieved most things in your 34 years, things that others could only dream of. Tragically this was cut short. Our lives can never be the same without you.” Melanie, Marc's sister said in her tribute: “My brother always had a smile for everyone. It was better than a thousand words. He always lit the room up”. Mr Davies said during the service: “Those involved in the racing world will be all too aware of the risks as well as the enormous pleasures that go with the sport. But none could have imagined a month ago that we would be here mourning the loss of one so young and with so much to give. As Marc's grandparents said 'it all seems the wrong way round.'” The family would like to thank all those who came to the funeral and/or contributed to the memorial fund. It was good to see so many people turn out to see Marc off, a good judgement of Marc's wonderful character, one truly loved by so many. |
